soma
the body as distinct from the soul, mind, or psyche.
Body over mind.
The body knows best. And it never lies.
Body language speaks far more truth than the words we use as expression.
Our bodies innately know what is required to thrive in this world. Our body senses exactly where we are in relation to space and surroundings.
We don’t need to think about where to place our feet as we walk because our bodies are already aware of how they are held in space through proprioception. When we learn to move un-mindfully, we pass power back to our authentic self.
Our minds only confuse situations.
When we want to perfect or control a situation, pattern or way of being, we dampen the magic of it. If we perform movement from mind, it’s linear, structured, with boundaries defined.
When we move from bodily sense of our breath, skin and heart, then perspective shifts and we create movement art.
Space becomes a canvas for the body to express.
There’s beauty in watching movement like ballet, dance, athletics because we get to see beneath the surface.
The way we move through life, through our moments is a whole-body experience.
Sometimes effort may be required to dive into the physicality of self. Focusing on technology, distraction and the general noise of modern life causes separation from our felt sense of be-ing.
Diving into body is medicinal and euphoric, leading us from the analytical, anxious state to an untamed, unfiltered landscape.
There are people, movements, places and situations that will coax body toward expansion and lightness of being. We wholeheartedly embrace these moments as they reweave our awareness back to body.
Amongst all the intentional distractions (especially these days), it’s nourishing to relearn our truth.
To fall into soma is a rebellious act. It's an attitude of regaining some of the power that gets taken away.
So fall, get lost along the way, and listen so closely to the subtle shifts within. For they speak a version of truth that longs to be heard and expressed.
